Mountain
Martial Arts / Jundokan Goju Ryu of New
Jersey - Seirenkai Jujitsu |
Seirenkai
Jujitsu is a system that
synthesizes principles and
techniques of Judo, Aikido,
Karate, “old style” Jujitsu
and weapons into a dynamic
self-defense system. It is
sanctioned by the
International Seirenkai
Organization (IS0), which
certifies all instructors,
standardizes procedures,
kata and techniques, and
regulates all Seirenkai dojo
worldwide.
Seirenkai Jujitsu and Karate
classes include traditional
training such as Ukemi, the
practice of break-falls and
roll-outs; Tachi Waza,
formal throwing techniques;
Yakusoku Kumite,
pre-arranged sparring
techniques; Randori, free
play throwing competition
for fun; Kobudo, the
practice of traditional
Okinawa weapons, and more.
The meaning of the name
Seirenkai is “association of
integrity”. Seiren means
integrity and kai means
association. Integrity
refers to the techniques in
both karate and jujitsu
having physical integrity
(real, useful and
applicable). Integrity also
refers to the character of
the people who practice
these arts as having and
demonstrating integrity in
their actions. One way to
think about integrity of
character is to ensure that
one’s actions match what
they say. The other meaning
of seiren is the act of
polishing, forging and
tempering something, as in
the process of turning metal
into a strong sword, thereby
giving it more integrity.
This is what we as Seirenkai
martial artists do with our
character and technique via
our training.
